We cover plants, close off fixtures and move what needs moving as part of the job — that is our responsibility, not yours. But there are a few things only you can do, and they make a real difference to how smoothly the visit goes.
Close your windows and doors properly, including any that are only latched rather than shut. This matters most on siding work, where water travels sideways and upward far more than people expect.
Know where your outdoor water spigot is and check it runs. For most jobs we connect to the property's water supply. A spigot that is seized, buried behind stored furniture or turned off at an interior valve is the most common cause of a delayed start.
Move what you can from the work area — cars off the driveway, patio furniture, grills, potted plants, door mats, garden ornaments, kids' toys. Anything left in place either has to be worked around or moved by us, and both cost time.
Point out anything fragile or already damaged. Loose siding, cracked window seals, a light fixture that has been temperamental, an outlet cover that does not sit flush, paint that is already lifting. We inspect before we start, but you know your property better than we will after ten minutes of looking at it, and a heads-up lets us plan around a weak spot rather than discover it.
Finally, if you have pets, plan for them to be inside. The equipment is loud, the cleaning solutions are not something you want an animal walking through, and gates get opened during the work.
